Having just resolved its 2025 municipal election in March, the borough is headed for the latest in a series of contested municipal elections this November.

Councilman Russell Talamini ran uncontested for his fifth full term in the June 2 primary with newcomer Ryan Schwertfeger on the county GOP line, with no Democratic challengers. Talamini's running mate, Pasquale "Pat" Pignatelli, is not seeking a new term.

Russell Talamini, a 21-year resident, is seeking his fifth council term after serving on the Oakland Board of Education from August 2007 to June 2014. He previously served as a council member in Harrington Park.

Ryan Schwertfeger, a 28-year resident, is a graduate of Indian Hills High School and Waynesburg University. He is a public information officer for Roseland in Essex County. He was appointed to the Oakland Communications Commission in 2017, revamping its television control room and digital communications systems. He oversaw a 12-year effort to install a dog run in Great Oak Park starting in eighth grade. It opened in 2021 and was named for his mother, Jill.
